Taste No. 5?

February 9, 2010 by jellytoast

But can I buy it at our local Wegmans?

MailOnline:

“You’ve tried sweet, sour, bitter and salty, .. now tubes of the 5th taste to be sold in supermarkets!

Many an amateur chef has tasted a dish only to declare that something is missing.

What follows is the inevitable excursion through the larder looking for that magic ingredient.

But the days of this culinary lottery appear to be numbered as a substance first known only to science – bottled ‘deliciousness’ – is coming to the High Street.

Audi green car commercial.

February 9, 2010 by jellytoast

I had an Audi two years ago I bought for something like $400. I think it was a 91 or 95 or 89. I can’t remember now. I loved to drive it but it refused to stop leaking anti freeze. I eventually sold it to a mechanic who restored it. Oh well.

Is Obama on a rescue mission?

February 3, 2010 by jellytoast

To save his statue, that is.

First we had this story dated Jan 25, TPM LiveWire:

Indonesia Says it May Tear Down Obama Statue

“Indonesian officials are considering a petition that calls for a bronze statue in Jakarta of a young Barack Obama to be torn down.”

Now, this story today, Feb. 2 Bloomberg.com:

Obama, Family Plan Trip to Boyhood Indonesian School in March.

“Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama will bring his wife and children on a trip next month to Indonesia, where he spent part of his childhood, as the U.S. seeks closer ties with the nation that has the world’s largest Muslim population.”

Lindsey: “Pass crap to save congress.”

February 1, 2010 by jellytoast

Or something like that.

NationalJournal.com

“Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said today that skeptical Republicans and Democrats should throw their support behind climate change legislation not only because it’s good for the economy and the environment, but because Congress desperately needs a win under its belt.

“We tried immigration. It’s hard. And we failed. We tried Social Security. It’s hard. And we failed. We tried health care. It’s really hard. And it looks like we’re going to have to start over again,” Graham somberly told a luncheon audience of energy and climate advocates on the Hill. “On the energy, climate change front, I don’t want to add that to the list. There is no reason in my mind that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party can’t come together.”

Just vote them all out and let God separate them.

Feeding cars instead of people.

January 25, 2010 by jellytoast

According to a new study, one quarter of all US grain supplies in the US go to feeding our cars, not people.

TheGuardianCoUK

“One-quarter of all the maize and other grain crops grown in the US now ends up as biofuel in cars rather than being used to feed people, according to new analysis which suggests that the biofuel revolution launched by former President George Bush in 2007 is impacting on world food supplies.”

“More than 80 new ethanol plants have been built since then, with more expected by 2015, by which time the US will need to produce a further 5bn gallons of ethanol if it is to meet its renewable fuel standard.”
